AIM General Assembly 2026 in Leiden
On 22 and 23 June 2026, AIM members met in Leiden for the General Assembly. The meeting focused on the achievements of the 2023–2026 term, the election of a new Presidium, and the organisation’s strategic priorities for the coming years.
Yannick Lucas was elected as the new President of AIM. In his inaugural speech, he stressed the importance of combining strong global representation with effective regional leadership. Solidarity, humanism and democracy will remain central values in AIM’s work. Loek Caubo, who led AIM for six years, was appointed Honorary President, while Verena Nold was named an Honorary Member.
The regional committees also discussed their future programmes. The Africa and Middle East Committee focused on stronger regional cooperation, digital health insurance and expanding AIM’s presence in Africa. The Latin America Committee addressed social inequality, climate change, cyber threats and the role of the social and solidarity economy. The European Committee discussed patient-centred and sustainable healthcare, as well as better access to effective and affordable medicines.
The General Assembly confirmed five main priorities for the new term:
- Strengthening solidarity-based health and long-term care systems
- Promoting patient-centred innovation and digitalisation
- Ensuring fair prices for medicines
- Integrating health into all policy areas and strengthening prevention
- Expanding international cooperation to achieve universal access to healthcare
With its new leadership and the 2026–2029 work programme, AIM aims to strengthen cooperation among its members and regions and continue advocating for fair, solidarity-based and sustainable health systems
