AIM Special Briefing: General Assembly 2025

14.10.2025

What an incredible two days in Brussels! On June 12 and 13, we gathered for a fantastic Congress and General Assembly to mark AIM’s 75th anniversary. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our excellent guests for the rich and insightful discussions.

As a memento of this special occasion, we are delighted to share our special briefing to remember our time together.

As you know, we have declared our anniversary year “The Year of Solidarity.” This theme was chosen with purpose. We see the very cement of our societies in solidarity that are facing erosion. When misunderstood, it crumbles, with direct consequences for the healthcare and social security systems that depend on it.

But what does solidarity mean today?

  • Solidarity demands responsibility from all of us. It means using “free” care wisely and recognizing that carer shortages may require us to support our elderly relatives. This collective responsibility ensures care remains available when we ourselves need it.

  • We see hope in the leadership of young people on issues like climate change. As mutuals, we must back these efforts and empower the next generation to shape the future of our organizations.

  •  The meaning of solidarity in 2025 requires our continuous reflection. It is the guiding principle behind our advocacy in Brussels for fair medicine pricing, thoughtful digitalization, and robust climate policy. It connects our global work, from Africa to the Middle East to Latin America, where mutuals are the driving force of solidarity in action.

This was the central question of our Congress: How do we enact solidarity—now and tomorrow?

The conversation doesn’t end here. We were thrilled to see so many of you sharing your #momentsofsolidairty on social media during and after the event.

Let’s keep this going! Our anniversary year lasts until December 31st meanwhile keep sharing what solidarity means to you.
